Multimodal Electronic Portfolios
For anyone interested in seeing an electronic portfolio
essay created by graduate students in the Master’s Degree in Reading Program, a
sample of a Weebly Site Graduate Essay, a sample of an undergraduate Weebly
Site portfolio.
For an example of a Weebly Site
Version from a Graduate Student see http://garrickexitessay.weebly.com
(Kelly teaches for the Florida
Virtual School and has used Weebly Sites with her students. )
For an undergraduate
version of electronic essay using a Weebly see
(Kathryn created
three versions of her portfolio.
Hand-held notebook version, Live Text version, and Weebly version. She voted the Weebly the most meaningful and
relevant, easy to create. )
Vicki Johnston, recent graduate from the Masters in Reading
Program at FGCU created both a Google Site and White paper version of her
essay.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CHOOSING A PLATFORM FOR SITE BUILDING
Many teachers use blogs. The following platforms are being used by teachers.
Blogger (Google) provides many connections to other Google Products
(Picasa for photos, Google Sites (another place to create sites), many Gadgets
that can be useful for teachers. Once
a user establishes a Gmail account, the doorway to Google.
See
Kahn Academy list 50 education technology
tools every teacher should know.
If you create a blog site you may be able to
use it as a sample of professional thinking made public. It can be practice for
exploring and using blog sites both personally and professionally. The site you
create can be helpful in exploring the use of blogs with students in the
classroom. In some cases teachers who
have demonstrated talent using blogs have been asked by administrators to lead
other teachers in using technology.
Some teachers have chosen to use
Edublogs.
Each year Edublog published award
winners in many categories.
Other teachers, especially language
arts and English teachers have used Wordpress.
More information about Wordpress
Weebly Sites are a great option for teachers as well. (One disadvantage, you can create two free sites. More requires a subscription cost.
A great resource about it's uses.
More teachers are using Blogger and
Weebly. You will get more creative ideas
from other teachers in the future if you choose to use one of these two options
and explore them now in this course.
Google Sites
Google Sites are a great option for
teachers, however, they are more complex in building and creating.
See examples of how Google Sites are being
used in the classroom
Another option is a Wix Site. It is free, easy to use and is even being
advertised on television. I recommend
this site for personal use. There will
be many more resources as a future teacher if you choose to Blog or use Weebly
Sites.
See a comparison of a Weebly and a Wix site.
